The Octopus named Paul that predicted all games involving Germany during this World Cup in South Africa has passed away. The news were confirmed by DAPD, a German news agency.
Paul the Octopus was living at the aquarium in Oberhausen Sea Life Centre, Germany. The octopus became a worldwide sensation this summer when he successfully predicted the results of all games which involved Germany in the 2010 World Cup.
Also, Paul predicted Spain will win the final over the Netherlands. The marine creature touched the hearts of millions of football fans across the globe with his predictions.
According to aquarium informations, Paul the Octopus was born in January 2008 in Weymouth, England. During Euro 2008 he managed to predict all the results for Germany but two (the defeats to Croatia and Spain).
How did he do it? Paul the Octopus would select teams by choosing a food item from one of the two boxes (one for each team). The boxed had the flags of the countries that were about to play and Paul would simply pick one box meaning that team will win. And all of his predictions in the 2010 World Cup were true! He was even given a replica World Cup trophy, garnished with three mussels for his predictions.
Paul the octopus will have his own small burial plot in the Sea life center and will even have his own permanent shrine.
Paul’s last prediction was that England would win the rights to host the 2018 World Cup. We’ll just have to see about that!
